
Cleaning Solutions
The majority of cleaning solutions we offer are for the cleaning of the sensitive glass pH sensor. Other cleaning solutions photometric measurements and include the cuvette cleaning solution used to the clean the cuvettes used in turbidity meters, spectrophotometers, photometers, and the Checker HC colorimeters. Also available is a cleaning solution for the suction lysimeter used to extract liquid from soil for photometric analysis.
pH Cleaning Solutions
The fundamental use of calibration and cleaning solutions is to correctly maintain electrode operation to assure accurate and reproducible readings. The most common cause for pH measurement inaccuracies is an unclean or improperly cleaned electrode. This is very important to note, because during calibration, the instrument assumes that the electrode is clean and that the standardization curve created during the calibration process will remain a valid reference until the next calibration. pH meters on the market today will allow an offset voltage of approximately ±60 mV. The deviation from 0 mV is not unusual but ideally should be no greater than ±30 mV. The calibration process compensates for the change in offset voltage.
Electrodes can become dirty from use and will produce inaccurate results even as they read correctly in a pH buffer. Hanna’s cleaning solutions eliminate impurities and residues that are left on electrode surfaces when immersed in samples during measurement and stored incorrectly. Hanna suggests cleaning the bulb and junction of your electrode on a regular basis to ensure that the probe is always clean and prevent any clogging of the junction.
Hanna offers a wide variety of cleaning solution from general purpose, protein cleaning, inorganics, and oil and grease to ones that are intended for specific applications such as wine, dairy and soil to name just a few.
Hanna cleaning solutions:
- Have the production batch number and expiration date on the packaging.
- Are in a air-tight bottle with tamper-proof seal of freshness to ensure quality.
- Are available in single use sachets or FDA complaint bottles.
General Purpose Cleaning Solution
The electrode is soaked in General Purpose Cleaning Solution for approximately 30 minutes to dissolve mineral deposits and other general coatings.
Protein Cleaning Solution
The electrode is soaked in pepsin based Protein Cleaning Solution for 15 minutes to enzymatically dissolve deposits from protein sources..
Inorganic Substances Cleaning Solution
The electrode is soaked in Inorganic Cleaning Solution for 15 minutes. This cleaner is especially effective at removal of precipitates caused by reaction with the silver in the filling solution that may form on a ceramic junction..
Oil, fat and Grease Cleaning Solutions
Oil, fat and grease removal require the correct chemicals to solubilize the coating, but are mild enough to leave the electrode unaffected. Acidic and alkaline cleaners are available.
Application Specific Cleaning Solution in Bottles
Each application specific solution is formulated based on the substance that is known to coat the sensitive glass surface. These solutions are available to clean wine stains, dairy products, soils, and skin grease. There are other specialized cleaning solutions available including salt deposits and cleaning and disinfection of algae from industrial processes. The following selection are for cleaning solutions 500 ml bottles.
Application Specific Cleaning Solution in Sachets
The application specific cleaning solutions are available in convenient single-use sachets. Each sachet has 20 ml of solution, which is enough to cover the bulb and junction of the probe to be cleaned. The application specific sachets has 25 packets of solutions per box.
Photometric Cleaning solutions
The cuvette cleaning solution is used to clean the haze that can form on the glass and interfere with the transmission of light through the cuvette. Also available is the cleaning solution used with the suction lysimeter for extracting liquid from soil for photometric analysis
